BIOTEV - UPB
UNIVERSITY POLITEHNICA OF BUCHAREST
The purpose of the Biomass Characterization, Treatment and Valorization Laboratory is to allow fundamental research with a view to developing innovative solutions for the recovery and recycling of biomass waste. By this laboratory new production technologies will be developed based on better utilization of human and material resources, by solving various problems related to the use of unconventional sources of raw materials and bioenergy. The laboratory generates greater value added from the perspective of implementation and development of innovative solutions of high scientific level for recovery of biomass waste from major sources of pollution into sources of energy and raw materials. The main objective of the laboratory is to reconfigure the already outdated biomass treatment technologies in order to obtain new bioenergy sources and high quality raw materials at low cost. At the moment, there are no nationwide laboratories to allow a scientific determination of the composition of biomass and waste in this case. The biomass characterization, treatment and valorization laboratory also carries exploratory and applied research in the field of biomass organic waste to energy in the form of derived fuel (biogas) supported by the existence of a developed infrastructure designed at experimental and industrial semi-pilot scale.
Tasks that can be fulfilled by the BIOTEV Laboratory is the simulation of all current thermo-chemical and bio-chemical processes used for biomass treatment: combustion, pyrolysis, gasification and anaerobic digestion.
